Find the right sleeping bag
How do I find the right sleeping bag for my child?
We want to pass on our extensive experience as parents and manufacturers to help many parents find the right sleeping bag for their children. Two factors play an essential role in selecting the appropriate sleeping bag:
Room temperature
We recommend selecting the appropriate sleeping bag based on the room temperature. How warm is the room where your baby sleeps? Is the window closed and the heating on (slightly)? Or is your child sleeping in a cooler room? Depending on this, a warm sleeping bag with one or more layers underneath may be necessary. Conversely, your child may only need a lightweight sleeping bag in a warmer room.
Sensation of warmth
Every child has a different sensitivity to temperature. It's best to feel the back of the baby's neck to determine if the sleepwear is warm enough. If the neck feels slightly cool, the sleep combination is too cold. If the neck feels somewhat moist, your baby is too warm. Some children sleep better barefoot in the sleeping bag, while others prefer wearing socks or a bodysuit. Tip: Experiment and see what works best for your child.
What does TOG value mean for sleeping bags?
You have probably come across TOG value when looking at baby sleeping bags. TOG is a unit of measurement for the thermal resistance of textiles. The TOG value describes how warm a sleeping bag is. The lower the TOG value, the lighter and cooler the material of the sleeping bag. The higher the TOG, the warmer the sleeping bag. The most common TOG values are:
TOG 0.5 = Lightweight sleeping bag for warmer temperatures ~ summer sleeping bag
TOG 1.0 - 1.5 = Middle warm sleeping bag ~ all-season sleeping bag
TOG 2.0 - 2.5 = Warm sleeping bag for colder temperatures ~ winter sleeping bag
More important than the TOG value is the room temperature at which your baby or toddler sleeps. Especially during transitional seasons like spring or autumn, temperatures can fluctuate quickly. To ensure your baby doesn't sweat or get cold, popolini offers sleeping bags made from breathable organic cotton suitable for different room temperatures.

What should I dress my baby in under the sleeping bag?
To ensure your baby sleeps well, it needs suitable clothing. Depending on the room temperature and sensitivity to warmth, your child may require a warm or cool sleeping bag plus one or more layers of clothing underneath. This is very individual, but let us show you some examples:
Winter / cool room = winter sleeping bag 2.5 TOG + long pyjama + body
Transition period / slightly cool room = all-season sleeping bag 1.0 TOG + long pyjama or just a long body underneath
Summer / warm room = summer sleeping bag 0.5 TOG + short body or just a cloth nappy underneath
Which sleeping bag is suitable for which season and room temperature?
At popolini, you will find sleeping bags of various warmth levels made from different materials. Whether you choose a summer sleeping bag made of interlock, jersey, or muslin, it's entirely up to you. You can see in the popolini store that every iobio sleeping bag is pleasantly soft.
